IMPORTANT TERMS:

Aster:
Star-like structure formed of centriole pairs and radiating microtubular
fibrils.
·
Bivalent:
A pair of homologous chromosome lying side by side during zygotene.
·
Chiasmata:
Visible
points of crossing over between homologous chromosomes during diplotene.
·
Crossing
over: Exchange of similar segments between non sister
chromatids of homologous chromosomes usually takes place during pachytene
stage.
·
Equatorial
Plate: Plate –like structure formed due to lining up the
chromosomes at equator of spindle during metaphase.
·
Phragmoplast:
Spindle that persists during cytokinensis in plant cells.
