HELLO STUDENTS: DAY- 30 Morning

                                BIOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION

 IMPORTANT TERMS:

·            Antibiotics: Organic secretions produced by micro-organism which are antagonistic to other micro-organisms.

·            Ascocarp: The fruiting body formed in some members of ascomycetes.

·            Basidiocarp: The fruiting body formed in some members of basidiomycetes.

·            Chemotrophs: The organisms which prepare organic food with the help of energy obtained by conducting some chemical reaction.

·            Cladistics: Method of classifying organisms employing genealogies alone in inferring their phylogenetic relationship.

·            Coenocytic: A multinucleate structure having no partition walls between the nuclei.

·            Diatomaceous Earth: Large deposits of silica on the ocean floor formed as a result of deposition of silicious frustiles of diatoms.

·            Holophytic( Absorptive): The mode of nutrition in which organisms obtain food in liquid form through their general body surfaces.

·            Holozoic (Ingestive): The mode of nutrition in which organisms intake solid food materials.

·            Karyotaxonomy: Taxonomy based on interrelationship developed on the basis of characteristics of nucleus and chromosomes.

·            Numerical Taxonomy: The numerical evaluation of similarities between groups of organisms and the ordering of these groups into higher ranking taxa on the basis of these similarities.

·            Phenetics (Adansonian taxonomy): A branch of numerical taxonomy in which the organisms are grouped into taxa on the basis of estimates of overall similarities.

·            Photoautotrophs: The organisms which prepare their own food from inorganic raw materials (CO2 and water) with the help of chlorophyll utilizing solar energy.

·            Phylogenetics: A biological classification concerned with reconstruction of evolutionary history and the history of speciation.

·            Plasmodium: A multinucleate mass of protoplasm of slime moulds which creep like Amoeba.

·            Plasmodium: A parasite protozoan, which causes malaria in human beings.
